The World Language Centre, WLC is a language training centre focusing on student language development and proficiency. Whether your objective is to prepare for an academic test, study abroad, improve your language for business, or to improve your general English skills, WLC offer a range of courses to students of all ages and language levels.

How to get to WLC

1. From the Yos Sudarso Tol Road (going toward Tanjung Priok)

From the Tol road exit at the Jatinegara exit, turn left when you see the sign, ST. Jatinegara. At the traffic lights turn left into Jl. Raya Bekasi Barat and go straight on. Then turn left (Setasiun Jatinegara is on the right) into Jl. Bekasi I (Jakarta Gems Center is on the right) and go straight on. At the end of the road you will see ‘Busar Tailor’, turn right.  Go straight on  and when you come to the traffic lights go across and enter Jl. Jatinegara Barat I (BRI bank is on the corner).

Go straight on and at the traffic lights at end of the road RS Hermina is in front of you. Turn right into Jl. Jatinegara Barat. At the end of the busway go directly into the slow lane  and turn sharp left and enter Bukit Duri Plaza. You will see WLC on the left.

2. From Jl. Matraman Raya

Head toward Jatinegara. At the first traffic lights (Apotik Djatinegara is on the left) turn right into Jl Slamet Riyadi.  Follow the road down, go past the roundabout keeping left. Go over the river and at the first junction, turn left to Bukit Duri. Go under the railway bridge and follow the road round. At the railway crossing turn left into Jl Bukit Duri Utara Raya.  Go past SMA8 and go straight on and go over the bridge. Directly after the bridge, turn left into Bukit Duri Plaza. You will see WLC on the left.

3. TransJakarta (Route 5, Kampung Melayu-Ancol)

The nearest TransJakarta stop to WLC is Kebon Pala (5-15). Get off the bus and go past Alfamart and Indomart on your right. Keep walking and WLC is on your right.

Children’s Courses

WLC Children’s English course contains five levels for elementary school age children. Students study from an international English book as well as a wealth of supplementary material. For children who are learning English for the first time or children who have some English skills and wish to improve, WLC Children’s courses can support your child to learn and use English actively and confidently.

All Children’s Courses follow British Council™ teaching guidelines from the ‘Learn English’ series. This teaching method encourages children to learn confidently focusing on productive use of English.

Objectives

The aims of this course are:

• To help students understand and use basic structures of English grammar correctly in a variety of purposeful communicative activities.
• To help students develop confidence in listening, speaking, reading in English, and using a good basic range of vocabulary.
• To make learning English an enjoyable and meaningful experience through exciting stories, songs, rhymes, games and puzzles.

Language structures

The WLC Children’s course is based on graded structures and vocabulary. Language items have been chosen according to the criteria of frequency, usefulness and simplicity. Each language item is recycled and reviewed regularly, systematically developing the students’ motivation and skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Upon completion of the course, students will receive a certificate.

VINNY

Vinny has taught on a range of Mandarin courses and is experienced in teaching both children and adults. She encourages students to be productive in their language use and always stresses clear use of the different tones when speaking Mandarin. Vinny is currently working on the completion of her undergraduate studies.

IELTS Testing

WLC (World Language Centre) is an official IELTS Test Centre in partnership with IDP (International Development Programs).

WLC provide IELTS candidates with a comfortable examination room, where candidates can have full concentration when taking the IELTS test.

IELTS Registration/Policy

1    1. IELTS TEST REGISTRATION

• Please fill in the completed Application Form, including your signature (on page 4). You can take the IELTS Form at WLC or you can download at:http://www.ielts.org/pdf/IELTS_Application_Form.pdf

• Submit 2 (two) Passport-size (4×6) colour photos (without glasses) with a white or blue background

• Submit a copy of your ID (passport/KTP)

• Payment Receipt (IELTS application fee), including the administration fee (IDR 30,000).

3. IMPORTANT NOTES

B               Before registration, please call WLC for:

• Confirmation of seat availability and IELTS Test dates.

• The daily rate if you want to pay in IDR.

• After registration, please send your Payment Receipt and completed documents.

4. IELTS TEST DAY

• The IELTS Test Takers must arrive in WLC at 8am

• Please bring your ORIGINAL ID (KTP) or PASSPORT. The IELTS Test Takers are not allowed to use photocopy ID (KTP) or Passport.

• On the test day the candidates will get their photo taken and finger scanned at WLC, the test venue.

• Please bring your own stationery (Pencil (2B), pen and eraser.

• The schedule of the speaking test will be announced on the test date. Please come 30 minutes before the scheduled time.

• The IELTS Test Result will be released 13 (thirteen) days after the test.

• WLC does not facilitate any questions about the IELTS Result.

SAT/GMAT Preparation Courses

Choose from a range of 25-50 hour SAT/GMAT preparation courses.

Properly prepare yourself to take the SAT or GMAT test by enrolling in a course at WLC. All courses cover the four skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking. General English

WLC General English courses are designed for adults and competent teenagers who want to use English both accurately and fluently. Grammar and vocabulary are taught and explained thoroughly and all four language skills are developed systematically.

The aims of this course are to encourage students to analyze the systems of language in use, to expose them to a variety of challenging and interesting text types in the listening and reading activities. Activities are personalised at every opportunity to give the students a chance to talk about them and to learn about their friends. At the end of every unit there is a review section to summarize what has been taught.

Communication games and role play activities are used in lessons to create a fun way of learning with usable formal and informal language relating to the world today.

The WLC General English course uses interesting, modern international books plus supplementary material created by WLC’s own teachers collected from extensive teaching experience in Indonesia.
